Well done to the Senior men who defeated Coolera/Strandhill on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-10 to book their place in the championship semi-final in two weeks time. The Gaels have shown great character in recovering from a first round defeat and we now look forward in anticipation to reaching the final for the first time in thirty years. The team was: Daniel Lyons, Daniel King, Evan Lyons, Oisin Conlon, Sean Carroll, Karl McKenna, Ciaran Kenny (0-3), Conor Sheridan, Patrick Kenny, Steven Willis (0-1), Dillon McDermott (0-1), David Quinn (0-4), Paul Higgins, Shane Deignan (1-1), Lee Deignan (0-1). Subs: Ben Tuohy for K McKenna, Liam O'Connell for S Willis, Conor McMorrow for S Carroll. The semi-final is on Sunday Oct 13th against St Molaise Gaels in Markievicz Park. 
 
Well done to the the U17 boys who finished off the year winning the B2 Shield final against Tourlestrane by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline 1-14 to 1-13. The team was: Eli Rogers, Conor Feeney, Tadhg Kenny, Liam McDermott, Eoghan Conboy, Daniel Kearns, Leo Scanlon, Jack Brehony, Miceal Garry, Rian Conway, Darragh McKeon, Eoin Feeney, Troy Kelly, Josh McTiernan, Matthew Potter Subs used: Diarmuid Feely and Charlie King. Thanks to the management team of David Quinn, Ciaran Garry, Ben Tuohy, Angela O'Connor and Caroline Cassidy for their work and time with the team this year.
 
The U16 girls year came to a close last Wednesday losing to Eoghan Rua in the A Shield semi-final on a score line 5-7 to 3-6. Thanks to Fiona Lyons, Gus Chapman and Majella Muldowney for all their work with the team this year.
The U13 Division 2 play Coolera/Strandhill away on Monday at 7.00PM.
 
The U13 Division 4 girls had a good win against St Johns last week on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-4. They now play St Nathys away on  Tuesday at 6.00PM.
 
On Wednesday evening the U11 boys rounded off a successful year with a blitz in a chilly Scarden and a trip to Supermacs afterwards. Thank you to Sligo GAA for hosting and to Coolaney/Mullinabreena, Calry St Joseph’s, St Farnan’s and St Michael’s for the competitive games. Thanks to Eugene Flynn, Eithne McGann, PJ Regan and Paul Brennan for coaching the team this year.
 
The U9 boys also finished up with a blitz in Scarden on Monday evening. Thanks to coaches Lisa Galvin, Ciaran McGovern, Tom Leydon, Sean McHugh and Noel Jinks for coaching the team this year.
 
Well done to the clubs All stars who attended the Festival of football hosted by St Mary's GAA club on Saturday. It was a great end to the clubs first year running the All stars program. We look forward to seeing the children back in 2025.

The winners of our annual Golf Classic were, 1st sponsored by Castle Dargan, Richard Graham, Kevin Conlon and Ray O'Grady, 2nd sponsored by Strandhill Golf Club, Dessie Murphy, Liam McKillen and Padraig O'Dowd, 3rd sponsored by Connollys Motors, Niall Kearney, Tom Kearney and John Kelly, 4th sponsored by Sligo GAA, Vincent Dwyer, Tony Ballantine, Raymond Barlow. 5th Johnny Quinn, Brian Boyd and Colin Harte. Longest Drive was won by Sean Carroll and nearest the pin was won by Adam Kearns. Thanks to all of the players and sponsors who supported the Golf Classic and thanks also to Eugene Carroll and Niall Kearns for organising and Castle Dargan for hosting.
The Senior team are back in action next weekend in the final group game against last years Champions, Coolera/Strandhill. The game is on Sunday at 3.00PM in Ballymote and we hope to see a big crowd there to support the team.
 
The U17 Boys play Tourlestrane in the B2 Shield final on Tuesday at home at 6.15PM.
 
The U16 girls lost their final group game to St Nathys on a scoreline of 3-11 to 2-12. This now sees them face Eoghan Rua in the A Shield quarter-final in Easkey on Wednesday at 6.15PM.
 
The two U13 girls teams lost last week. The Division 2 group lost to Eastern Harps on a scoreline of 5-6 to 1-8, while the Division 4 team came up against a very strong Drumcliffe/Rosses Point. Both teams play at home this week. The Division 2 girls play Calry/St Josephs on Monday at home at 6.00PM while the Division 4 team play St Johns on Tuesday at 6.00PM in Riverstown Park.
 
The U11 boys play in their final Blitz of the year on Wednesday in Scarden, while the U9 boys are in Scarden Monday for their blitz.
 
Our G4M&O hosted Ballymote on Friday in Riverstown Park for a very enjoyable game. Thanks to Ballymote for travelling and Donie McDermott for refing the game ensuring plenty of fun was had.
 
The club wish to express sympathy with the family and relatives of Annie Connolly, Ballygawley who died last week.

It was a busy weekend with all four senior teams in championship action and the conclusion of our underage coaching for the year. In what we believe may be a first, all three men's senior teams won their respective championship games while the Ladies lost out.
First up was the Junior B team who recorded their first championship win on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-9 over St Johns. The team was: Eoin McDermott, Emmet Dodd, Jamie Parke, John Craig, Eoin Dwyer, Niall Whelan, Adam Kearns (0-1), Adrian McCann (1-0, Sean Duffy (0-2), Damien Lyons (0-4), Keith McMorrow (1-1), Diarmuid Jinks, PJ Regan (0-1). Subs: Paul Ryan, James Conlon, Callum Kennedy. They now bow out of the championship. Thanks to the management team of Michael Brennan, Diarmuid Jinks and James Conlon for their work with the team this year.

The Senior team had a narrow one point win over Easkey in round 4 of the championship to keep their hopes of a semi-final place alive on a final score of 1-15 to 1-14. The Junior A team had a great 2-9 to 0-8 win in their final game against Tourlestrane and narrowly miss out on a semi-final place. The team was: Sean Kelly, Declan Willis, Jack Tuohy, Sam Tuohy (1-1), Gavin McMorrow, Michael Barry, James Carroll (0-2), Conor Kearns (0-2), Arron Coleman (0-1), Liam O'Connell, Niall Kenny, Sean Duffy, Adam Kearns (1-0), Darragh Hailstones (0-3). Subs: Eoin Dwyer for A Kearns. Thanks to the management team of Mark Tuohy and Keith McMorrow for their work with the team this year.

The senior ladies lost out on a final spot losing 2-8 to 0-17 to Curry in their final group game. The team was: Mairead Tuohy, Ava Lyons, Amy Healy, Louise Merrick, Sophia Rose Henry, Ellie McDermott, Ciara Gilligan, Aoife Morrisroe, Isobel Clarke, Jade Lyons, Lara Swann, Erin Mullaney, Orlaith Scanlon, Rachel Boyd, Penny Barlow subs used: Ruby Clarke and Hannah Willis. Thanks to Fiona Lyons, Majella Muldowney, Glen McDermott, Frankie King and Mark Tuohy for their work with the team for championship this year.

The U17 boys lost 2-10 to 0-7 to Geevagh/St Michaels last Thursday. The team was: Eli Rogers, Joseph O'Connor, Tadhg Kenny, Conor Feeney (0-1), Liam McDermott, Daniel Kearns, Fionnan Duffy, Jack Brehony, Miceal Garry, Eoin Feeney (0-1), Darragh McKeon, Rian Conway, Troy Kelly, Josh McTiernan (0-3), Matthew Potter (0-1). Sub used Diarmuid Feely. They now play Tourlestrane in the Shield final in the coming week, day and time to be finalised.

The U16 girls play St Nathys in Bunninadden on Wednesday at 6.30PM.
The U15 boys narrowly lost the A semi-final last Tuesday to St Molaise Gaels on a scoreline 4-16 to 6-12. The team was: Eli Rogers, Joseph O'Connor, Eoghan Conboy, Sean Tonry, Eoin Fenney, Daniel Kearns, Leon McMorrow, Miceal Garry, Fionnan Duffy, Dylan McMorrow, Josh McTiernan, Luke Fitzpatrick, Diarmuid Duffy, Cillian Barlow, David Malone. Hard luck to the lads who had previously won the A league Shield and it was a great achievement to make it to the A Cup semi final in the championship just coming up short on the day by two points. Thanks to the management team of Eoin O'Connell, Andrew Malone, Mark Tuohy and Eoin McDermott for their work with the team this year.

The U13 girls Division 2 lost to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on a scoreline of 4-12 to 3-6. They now play Eastern Harps on Monday away at 6.30PM. The U13 Division 4 team had a good win over Eoghan Rua last Thursday on a scoreline of 6-7 to 1-4. They now play Drumcliffe/Rosses Point at home on Tuesday at 6.30PM.

The U13 C boys lost 3-8 to 2-4 to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the Shield semifinal last week. The team was, Sean McMorrow, Brian Merrick, Ben Caliendo, Euan Bergin, Shane Henry, Nathon Fallon, Dylan Leydon, Darragh Quigley, Micheal O'Connor, Maverick Lyons, Alfie McTiernan. Thanks to the U13 management team this year, Shane Quigley, Enda Candon, Christopher McMorrow, Tom Leyden, Ryan Parke and Adam King.

We finished up our Saturday morning coaching last saturday with a fun morning for the children followed by some refreshments and a visit from the ice cream van. The weather didn't dampen spirits with nearly 90 children attending on the morning. Thanks to all our Saturday morning coaches who ensure we are able to cater for all our young players ensuring fun and plenty of skills and enjoyment along the way.

The winner of the 50/50 draw was Michelle Carter who won €715.

The Junior A team lost 2-10 to 5-11 to St Mary's in round three of the Championship at the weekend. The team was: Sean Kelly, Paul Brennan, Shane Barry, Jack Tuohy, Gavin McMorrow, Sam Tuohy, Conor Kearns (0-1), James Carroll, Seamus Hailstones, Liam O'Connell, Michael Barry (0-2), Keith Candon, Eoin Dwyer, Darragh Hailstones (2-7). Subs: Niall Whelan for N Craig, Adam Kearns for E Dwyer. They now take on Tourlestrane next Sunday in Keash at 5.00PM.
 
The Junior B team lost 3-14 to 0-10 to St Michaels in the Junior B championship last Friday. The team was: Eoin McDermott, Diarmuid Jinks, Joris Rooney, John Craig, Eoin Dwyer (0-1), Sean Duffy (0-1), Adam Kearns (0-1), Damien Lyons, Joe Quinn (0-4), Jarlath Lyons (0-3), PJ Regan, Paul Ryan, Shane McCann subs: James Conlon for S McCann. Well done to Sean Duffy on his first Senior appearance. They now take on St Johns away on Friday at 6.00PM.
 
The Senior men are out again on Saturday in round 3 of the Championship against Easkey in Enniscrone at 7.00PM.
 
The Senior Ladies are also back in action Sunday morning in round 3 of the championship away to Curry at 10.30AM.

The team was: Mairead Tuohy, Sophia Rose Henry (0-2), Leanne Galvin, Ava Lyons, Louise Merrick, Ellie McDermott (0-1), Ciara Gilligan (1-0), Isobel Clark, Aoife Morrisroe, Erin Mullaney (0-1), Lara Swann (0-1), Jade Lyons (0-1), Orlaith Scanlon (1-1), Céilí Faughnan (2-5), Rachel Boyd (0-2), Subs used: Penny Barlow for E Mullaney, Eillis O'Connor for R Boyd, Aisling Dwyer for L Merrick.

This sees them finish third in table and face second place Eastern Harps in the A semi-final on Friday. Best wishes to Cillian Conboy who picked up an injury in the game.

The Senior team got their championship campaign back on track with a 0-16 to 0-10 win over Calry/St Josephs in round 2. In very difficult conditions we found ourselves 0-6 to 0-2 down at half time, but we were level after 10 minutes of the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end. The team was: Jack Duignan, Ben Tuohy, Evan Lyons, Oisin Conlon, Karl McKenna, Paul Higgins, Daniel King, Dillon McDermott (0-1), Patrick Kenny, Ciaran Kenny (0-3), Lee Deignan (0-1), Steven Willis (0-2), Brendan Hailstones, David Quinn (0-7), James Foley (0-2). Subs: Conor McMorrow for B Hailstones, George Barlow for P Kenny.  They now have a three week break and take on Easkey in round 4 on September 14th.
 
The Junior team drew 4-6 to 1-15 with St Molaise Gaels in round 2 last Saturday in Easkey. The Gaels had the benefit of a strong breeze in the first half and were six points up at half time and held the lead into injury time where Molaise were awarded two frees to draw level. The team was: Sean Kelly, Shane Barry, Paul Brennan, Michael Barry, Sam Tuohy, Declan Willis, Gavin McMorrow (1-0), George Barlow, James Carroll, Conor Kearns (0-1), Liam O'Connell (0-3), Seamus Hailstones, Darragh Hailstones (1-2), Frank Quinn (2-0). Subs: Jack Tuohy for S Tuohy, David Barlow for G Barlow. They have no game next weekend with the next game against St Marys on Saturday 7th September in Cloonacool.

The U18 girls had a week of mixed fortunes. They lost to St Nathys on Monday on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-7. They then faced Tourlestrane on Wednesday and in a highly entertaining game we emerged winners on a scoreline of 6-9 to 4-6. This was the girls last group game. They now await the last round of games to determine if we will reach a semi-final.

The two U12 girls team concluded phase 2 of the Go Games with the U12's playing St John's and the U11's playing CT Gaels. The girls skills have really developed during these games and throughout the whole year with the future looking very bright for these girls in Gaels Jerseys.

The U14 girls lost their final group game to Calry/St.Josephs last Monday on a scoreline of 4-8 to 1-6. The girls never got into a right rhythm and struggled to get scores. This sees us finish second in the group and play St Patrick's/St Farnans in the semi-final. The Senior Ladies lost to CT Gaels in the Division 2 league final at the weekend. The Gaels went in two points up at half time with the aid of a strong breeze and were one point up with ten minutes remaining, however a late surge by CT Gaels saw them take the lead through two late goals and ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-7 to 1-12. The team was: Mairead Tuohy, Amy Healy, Leanne Galvin, Ava Lyons, Jade Lyons, Aoife Morrisroe, Penny Barlow, Isobel Clarke, Ruby Clarke, Orlaith Scanlon, Naomh Quinn, Lara Swann, Ceili Faughan, Ellie McDermott and Erin Mullaney subs used: Eilis O Connor, Leah Mullaney and Aaleasha Sweeney. They now await the start of the championship on Sunday 25th August.

The U14 Girls notched up another win away to Geevagh/St Michaels in what was our last away game of the Championship. We had a nervy start but once the score board started to tick over the girls settled and pushed on taking some fine team scores to win by seven points on a scoreline of  3-10 to 3-3. The senior Div 1 team had a good 0-9 to 1-10 win over Coolera/Strandhill at the weekend. They now take on Eastern Harps at home next Saturday at 7.00PM.

The senior Div 3 team take on St Michaels away next Friday at 7.30PM, while the Div 4 team also take on St Michaels away next Sunday at 2.00PM.

The U18 boys get their championship underway on Tuesday at 7.00PM away to Owenmore Gaels.

The Senior men Div 1 team lost 5-12 to 1-10 away to Curry in the second round of the league. They now take on St Molaise Gaels away next Saturday at 7.00PM.

The Senior men Div 4 team lost narrowly to Enniscrone last Saturday on a scoreline of 3-6 to 2-10 having led all teh way until the closing stages. The team was: Sean Kelly, Jamie Parke, Diarmuid Jinks, Arron Coleman, Shane McCann, Aodhan Eivers, Jack Tuohy, Brian Dwyer, Paddy O'Grady (1-2), Keith McMorrow (1-1), PJ Regan, Callum Kennedy, Keith Candon (1-3). The U16 girls recorded a good 1-12 to 2-3 win over St Nathys last Thursday.

The U15 boys lost the A semi-final to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on a scoreline 4-8 to 2-8 in difficult weather conditions. 

The U14 girls Division 2 side lost their final group game to St Molaise Gaels. They now play Coolera/Strandhill in the Shield semi-final away on Tuesday at 7.00PM. The Division 3 team polay St Patrick's/St Farnans on Wednesday at 6.30PM in Riverstown Park.

The U13 C boys won their final group game against Castleconnor last Friday. It was a very competitie game with the sides level after the first and second quarters however the Gaels pulled away to win on a scoreline 6-18 to 3-12. This now sees them qualify for Cup semi-final. The U13 A boys play St Johns on Thursday at 6.30PM in Riverstown Park in the league quarter-final.

The U11 and U9 boys enjoyed great games against St John's last week while our U10 and U8 girls travelled to St Mary's for three highly entertaining games. 

Good luck to Cloghogue N.S. whose boys team compete in the Cumann na mbunscoil 3/4 teacher final this Saturday while the girls team from Cloghogue and boys team from Sooey contest the shield finals over the coming weeks.

The U14 girls Division 2 team play Curry away on Tuesday at 7,00PM.

The U13 boys both recorded wins this week. The U13 A team defeated St John's on a scoreline 3-15 to 3-5 while the C team had a good win against St Pats on Monday on a scoreline 5-12 to 1-10. The U13 A team play Drumcliff/Rosses Point away next Sunday at 12.30AM while the U13 C team play Owenmore Gaels away on Wednesday at 7.00PM.

The two U12 girls teams play Drumcliffe/Rosses Point away on Wednesday at 6.30PM and 7.30PM.

The U11 and U9 boys enjoyed some great football last week against St Molaise Gaels. They now play St Marys away this week on Tuesday and Wednesday at 700PM.

We had another enjoyable day out at the Sligo/Galway game on Saturday with the Senior members of our community, organised by our Healthy Clubs Committee. Thanks to all who helped, especially the County Board, Eamonn McMunn, Pat Clifford and John Prenty of Connacht Council.

The Senior Ladies had an exciting 2-11 to 3-8 draw with CT Gaels on Sunday in the league. All games this weekend were postponed due to weather conditions. 

The Junior men take on Eastern Harps away on Friday at 8.00PM in the Spring League while the Senior men take on Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on Sunday in Riverstown Park at 2.00PM in the Spring League.

The Senior Ladies play CT Gaels next Sunday in Riverstown Community Park at 10.30AM in the league.

The U18 boys lost to a strong Owenmore Gaels side last Thursday. They now play Coolaney/Mullinabreena away next Thursday at 6.30PM.

The U16 girls start their league campaign on Thursday away to Eoghan Rua at 7.00PM.

The U15 boys had a good 4-10 to 3-3 win over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in their opening game league last week. They now play St John's away on Tuesday at 6.30PM.

The club are delighted to be in a position to field two u14 girls teams this year. Our Division 3 team lost to a strong CT Gaels team last Monday.

Both U13 boys teams got their league campaigns off to wining starts last week. It was with sadness that we learned of the passing this week of two former club officers, John Moore, Ballisodare and Joe Gildea, Riverstown. John was a former Chairperson of our Bord Ná Nóg and was also involved in coaching in the club. A minutes silence was held at the recent Club meeting in John's memory. Joe Gildea had a long association with the club down through the year and also served as Treasurer of our Bord Ná Nóg. We express sympathy with their families, relatives and friends on their passing. We also express sympathy with the family, relatives and friends of Noreen Currid, Dublin and formerly of Sooey who passed away last week.

We held our senior awards night in McDermott's, Castlebaldwin last Saturday where Noel Gallagher, Vice Chairperson of the County Board presented our Men's senior team with the 2023 Division 1 winners medals. Ciaran Kenny was presented with the Boyd memorial cup for Senior player of the year by Brian Boyd on behalf of the Boyd family. Bridie Connolly presented Aarron McKenna with the Intermediate Player of the year on behalf of the Connolly family while John Joe Connolly presented  Niall Henry with the Junior Player of the Year award on behalf of the Connolly family. The Devina Duncan memorial Cup for Ladies player was awarded to Louise Merrick with the award presented by Simone Moss to Sharon Merrick on behalf of Louise. Congratulations to all the winners.

We also formally inducted former Chairperson, Seamus Cawley into our Hall of Fame. Current Chairperson, Andy Kearns read the citation on the night and the full text can be seen in this weeks Sligo Champion and Weekender and will be posted on line shortly.

Well done to Gaels players who starred with various teams during the week. First up was Coola U17 Team winning the B all Ireland Soccer final with a strong representation of Gaels players, Jade Lyons won the Ladies HEC O'Connor Cup with DCU, Ruby Clark won the Moynihan Cup with ATU Sligo, while Sophia Rose Henry starred at full back in Sligo LGFA U16 team's win over Galway on Saturday - well done to all.

As part of our Healthy Club initiatives, we have been successful in an application for a social initiative between the GAA and Specsavers to establish a connection between older and more vulnerable members of our community. Under this initiative, we plan to organise a trip to the Sligo NFL game against Antrim in Markievicz Park on Sunday 25th February. We plan to organise a bus, tickets and some refreshments on the day and it would be great if we could reach out to members of our community who would be interested in this trip - please contact Marina Swann on 086 8589048 if you know someone who may be interested.

We held our annual underage awards ceremony last weekend where we presented winning medals to U13 Boys A Shield League and Championship, U14 Girls A Championship, U18 Boys B Shield and U18 Girls C Championship winners. We also presented player of the year awards to U10, Victoria Barlow, Daithi Scanlon, U11, Savannah Cox, Brian Merrick; U12, Ciara Byrne, Aaron Brehony; U13, Leon McMorrow; U15, Eoghan Conboy; U16, Orlaith Scanlon; U17, Aaron Coleman and U18, Hannah Willis. Overall winner was Katie Gilligan. Congrats to all and thanks to the Kearns family for sponsorship of these awards.

We will be hosting a Couch to 5K in conjunction with Sligo Sports Partnership starting on Wednesday 21st February in Riverstown Park. The cost is €30 for 6 weeks and a registration night will be held on Monday 12th in Riverstown Park between 6.30PM and 7.30PM. If you can't make this time to register, please contact any committee member. 

As part of our Healthy Club initiatives, we have been successful in an application for a social initiative between the GAA and Specsavers to establish a connection between older and more vulnerable members of our community. Under this initiative, we plan to organise a trip to the Sligo NFL game against Antrim in Markievicz Park on Sunday 25th February. We plan to organise a bus, tickets and some refreshments on the day and it would be great if we could reach out to members of our community who would be interested in this trip - please contact Marina Swann on 086 8589048 if you know someone who may be interested.

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Boyd, Letterkenny at the weekend. Michael would have played for the Gaels in the early days of the club and we express sympathy with Vivion, Pat and Alexis and all of the Boyd family and friends on Michael's passing. We also express sympathy with the family of Ellen Moran (nee Gaffney), Swords and formerly of Gleann who dies recently.

The club are pleased to announce that Liam Gilmartin has been appointed as Senior Ladies team manager for the coming season. He will be joined by Fiona Lyons, Majella Muldowney and John Quinn. We wish Liam and his management team the best of luck for 2024.

The 2023 underage awards will be presented on Sunday 21st Jan at 4.30PM in Riverstown Hall. We will also be presenting winners medals to U13 Boys A Shield League and Championship, U14 Girls A Championship, U18 Boys B Shield League and U18 Girls C Championship.

He is joined by his backroom team of selectors, Pat McTiernan and Keith McMorrow, Coach, Alan Doherty and S&C Coach Joe Quinn. We wish Shane and his team the best of luck for the year ahead.
