In conjunction with the GAA's social initiative and the ASAP programme - we will be hosting a great night out this Friday 11th in Castle Dargan. The purpose of the GAA Social Initiative is to help in providing a social outlet to those who don't have many opportunities to socialise - in particular older members of the community and it is a joint venture between the GAA and the HSE. 'For Club and County' - the Making of a Sporting hero - is Seamus O'Rourke's (former Leitrim footballer) new play and is a hilarious comedy - an enjoyable night is guaranteed. The play starts at 8.30PM sharp with tickets at €10 available at the door.
The Bord Na Nog AGM takes place next Sunday 13th at 6PM in the Clubhouse. We would appreciate a strong turnout from parents of underage players as we lay out plans for 2013.

The AGM will take place next Saturday 19th January at 6.00PM in the clubhouse. This is your chance to have your say in the running of the Club for 2013 and we would encourage all Club members to attend - we also welcome anyone who is not a member and who is interested in promoting Gaelic Games to come along to the meeting – all are welcome.
Thanks to everyone who supported the play last Friday night in Castle Dargan – a great nights entertainment was had by all.
The Bord NaNog AGM was held last Sunday evening and the following officers were elected for the coming year:- Chairman: Michael Brennan, Secretary: Michelle McMorrow, Joint Treasurers: Noel Benson and Enda O’Connell. Congrats to Michael Brennan on his new appointment and we wish him the best of luck for the year. We also would like to thank ougoing Chariman John Cawley for his work during the year. The process of getting all of our Managers in place will be complete over the next few weeks – anyone interested in getting involved are asked to contact Michael Brennan or Michelle McMorrow. Thanks also to the large crowd who attended on the night with many new faces - we hope to see you all back at the first meeting of the year on which will be on Feb 1st at 8.30PM.

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot – there were five match 3 winners - Liam Galvin, Christy McMorrow, Vincent Henry, Gearoid O'Connor and Ronan Mullen while the house draw was won by Micheal Henry. The jackpot now moves to €1,300 and the next draw is on Saturday 2nd Feb in Sean Macs, Riverstown.

There is a coaching workshop on Physical fitness for Youth/Adult players with Tommy Craddock Sligo Senior team coach on Monday 11th Feb from 7-9PM at Sligo Sports complex – all coaches involved with youth and adult teams should attend.
The senior team had a useful workout against Drumkeerin last Saturday – they play Dromahair next Sunday at 11am in Riverstown Park. We would like to wish Brian Boyd all the best as he heads to Australia.

The whole community was shocked at the weekend with the tragic death of Eoin Kelly and Declan McCormack. The Club wish to express sympathy with the Kelly and McCormack families and friends for their tragic loss. The game against St Michaels on Sunday was postponed as a mark of respect.
The Senior Team lost 1-12 to 2-12 to St Johns in the first round of the Kieran Cup last Saturday. The 2012 underage awards were presented last weekend. Conor Merrick won the Minor award and also the Leo and Phil Kearns Cup for overall Player of the Year. The other winners were:- U10 - Darragh Heffernan, Jade Lyons, U12 – Evan Lyons, Darragh Kelly, Mairead Tuohy, U13 – Sean Carroll, U14 – Marc Keegan, U16 – Daniel Willis, Naomh Quinn. Congrats to all the winners and the club wish to thank the Kearns family for their continued sponsorship of these awards.
The U16 team got the first underage action for the year underway with an impressive hard fought 1-10 to 0-10 victory at home to Easkey on Sunday. The re-arranged Abbott Cup match against St Michaels will take place this weekend.

The club is running a one day camp in Riverstown Park on Thursday 28th March (Easter Holidays) from 10.00am - 3.00pm in conjunction with the full time coaches in the county. This camp is free and open to boys and girls aged 6-13 - anyone interested in attending contact Mark Tuohy on 087-9834083.

There will be a meeting for all team management within the Club - both adult and under-age - this Thursday 11th, at 9.30 p.m. in the clubhouse. Please note the Club requires that everybody involved in team management within the Club attend this highly important meeting.
The Seniors drew 1-10 to 0-13 with Geevagh in a closely contested Kiernan Cup game at Geevagh on Saturday evening. The team was: Mark Tuohy, John Craig, Paul Brennan, Gavin McMorrow, Colin Harte, Keith McMorrow, Niall Brennan (0-1), David Quinn (0-7), Liam O'Connell (0-1), Derrick Davey, Paul Higgins, Peter Henry, Johnny Quinn (0-3), Eoin Mc Dermott, Ciaran O'Connor. Subs; Kevin Barry (0-1) for C O'Connor, Keith Candon for E McDermott. The Seniors are at home to Curry next Saturday at 6.30PM.
We returned to Geevagh on Sunday morning, where a depleted Junior squad took on Geevagh in the Abbott Cup. This was a high scoring entertaining game, which we lost by the minimum margin on a scoreline of 3-14 to 3-13. The team was: Peter Henry, Noel Jinks, Diarrmuid Jinks, Eoin O'Connell, Niall Brennan (0-1), Liam Tuohy (0-1), Adrian Mc Cann (0-1), Gavin Mc Morrow, Sean O'Connell (1-0), Keith Candon (0-6), Declan Willis (0-1), Mark Boyd (1-3), Donal Carroll (1-0). They now take on Cloonacool away next Sunday at 2PM in Division 3.
The minor team drew 2-12 to 2-12 away to Ballymote last week and now take on Eastern Harps at home next Tuesday at 7PM.
The U16’s kept up their winning run with a 3-11 to 1-11 home win over Tourlestrane. They take on St Marys away this Thursday at 7PM.
We have been drawn with neighbours Owenmore Gaels and St. Michael's in the Intermediate Championship and with St Maloise Gaels and Curry in the Junior A Championship.

The annual Golf Classic takes place in Castle Dargan on Saturday 1st June – put the date in the diary.

The Junior team lost 2-8 to 2-6 at home to Coolera/Strandhill and are away to St Pats next Friday at 8pm in the final game of the league.
The U14 girls lost 3-10 to 0-9 to Ballymote in the league final last Monday. We had most of the possession in the first half but found it difficult to convert and with the Girls having unfairly been asked to play three evenings in a row - tiredness showed at times - however they never gave up and battled to the final whistle. Bord Na nÓg plan to host a 7km Fun run/walk commencing and finishing at the club grounds on Sunday 28th July followed by novelty races and events in Coola for a fun day for all the family. Entry to the race is €10 - more details to follow.

There wil be a general clean up of the club grounds this Saturday July 27th at 12AM. We would appeal to all members, players and parents to give up an hour to help spruce up the facilities – don’t forget to bring spades, strimmers and any implement you think you will need to help out!

The Club held a very enjoyable Fun Run/Walk and family day last Sunday. In the 7K race, the mens winner was Danny Hannon from Dromahair in a time of 25:51 while local man Enda Dineen was second on 27:53. Ladies winner was Mathona Conheady in a time of 32:07 while Marian Frain from Mullingar was second on a time of 36:18. Thanks to all who supported the event – we hope you enjoyed the day. A word of thanks to Gary Rogers who was put under pressure in the penalty kicks and Aoife O’Connor who was kept busy face painting and Conor McDonagh for organising the tug-of-war. Thanks to all who provided food and helped out on the day - a special word of thanks to Michelle McMorrow who not only came up with the idea but who also put a lot of work into organising the event.
All roads lead to Ballymote next Sunday 4th when the Senior team take on Owenmore Gaels in the Championship at 6.00PM – please come out and support the team.

The Gaels got the Intermediate Championship off to a winning start with a 1-16 to 0-10 win over Owenmore Gaels last Sunday evening. Played in ideal conditions in Ballymote the Gaels made hard work in closing out the game despite being seven points up at half time. Owenmore Gaels started the second half brightly and scored three points without reply. Both sides exchanged scores over the next ten minutes and it was not until the last ten minutes that the Gaels started to pull away with five points in the closing minutes to win by nine points. Well done to the U12 Group 1 team who won the 'A Shield Final' last Saturday beating St Maloise Gaels 0-15 to 0-5 in the final having earlier beaten Eastern Harps 0-13 to 0-5 in the semi-final - full details next week.
The Intermediate team made their exit from the Championship after losing 1-11 to 0-12 to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the quarter final last Saturday. Having held Drumcliffe for most of the first half against a strong breeze - a five minute spell at the end of the half was to cost the Gaels dearly as we conceeded 1-3 to go in at half time seven points down. The Gaels put in a strong performance in the second half coming to within one point after twenty three minutes however Drumcliffe held on and finished strongly to win by two. The U16 boys took on Owenmore Gaels on Monday last in the A2 Championship semi-final. The sides had drawn already this year in a tough game which proved they were evenly matched. This was the case again on Monday night with Shamrock Gaels losing by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline 2-7 to 0-14. The U12 Group 1 team had a very successful day in MarkievizPark last Saturday. They won their semi-final against Eastern Harps on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-5 in wet conditions. They then played St Molaise Gaels in the final and defeated them by 9 points to lift the Shield. The U-12 girls contested their second final of the year last Saturday against Tourlestrane. We were unsucessful however the girls played well to the finish. A massive thank you to the managers Fiona Lyons and Aoife O'Connor for all the hard work they have put in this year. This was the club's most successful U12 girls team winning the 'A' league and then contesting the 'A' championship final.

The U14 girls had a great win over Ballymote in the Championship final last Monday under lights in Tourlestrane. After having lost to Ballymote in the League final this was always going to be a tough game however the girls put in the performance of the year in front of great Gaels support to emerge as winners on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-6. Well done to the girls who trainied so hard all year alongside the U12 girls - both teams contested the league and championship finals with the U12's winning the league and the U14 team winning the championship in what has been a great year for Ladies football within the club.

The U20 team lost at home to St Patricks in the semi-final of the 'B' Championship. The Gaels dominated the first half and were in confident mood at half time leading by three points - however two second half goals from St Pats put them into a commanding lead mid-way through the half and they ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-11 to 3-12. The club wish to congratulate Joe Taaffe on his appointment as Chairman of the County Board - we wish him well for the year ahead. Congrats also to Kieran McDermott, who was appointed Patron of Sligo GAA at Convention. Kieran was nominated by Shamrock Gaels in recognition of his many years of selfless devotion to Sligo GAA and his appointment received the unanimous support of delegates. Well done to Eamonn McMunn who was appointed Delegate to Congress and Seamus Cawley who was appointed Delegate to Connacht Convention.
Congrats to Coola who won the Sligo Schools Senior C last week with a 3-10 to 2-9 win over Enniscrone. The Gaels were well represented with Michael Kilkenny bagging 3 goals while Ciaran Kilfeather, Paul Higgins, Caolan McCann, Daniel Willis, Marc Keegan and Enda O'Connell played and Mark Kearns, Darragh Hailstones, Daire Kearns and Daniel Murphy were also on the panel.
The winners of the November draw were, Francis Quinn, Jimmy Scanlon and Donie Quinn while the December winners were Mrs.Gretta Quinn, Doreen McDermott and Andrew Kearns. The winners of the special Christmas draw were Brian Boyd, Francis Quinn and John Quinn.
