At a well attended AGM on Sunday, Chairperson Lauri Quinn stepped down after ten years at the helm and Andy Kearns has been elected to the position for the coming year. In accepting the position, Andy acknowledged Lauri's record as a progressive chairperson who has seen the club go from strength to strength and he thanked him for the tremendous selfless work he has done in developing the club which he is leaving in a healthy position for the future. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Jenny Galvin this week. The Galvin family have a long association with the club both in a playing and coaching capacity and Jenny's son Thomas and grandchildren are carrying on that tradition. This sees the lad's year come to an end after what was a difficult league campaign, we had a great run in the championship. The U9 boys participated in a blitz in Scarden last week which finished off a great year for the boys.
The U7 boys and girls hosted neighbours Geevagh and St Michaels in a blitz on Tuesday. There was some great skill on display for the last game of the year.
The final Saturday morning coaching finished for 2023 with a trip to the Dome. It was a great day out for all the underage players from U6 to U12. Thanks to all the parents for their support and all the coaches for their time and effort with the children this year.

The club wish to express sympathy with the family and relatives of Breege Merrick, Whitehill who died last week. The club also wish to express sympathy with Senior Ladies joint manager, John Brennan on the death recently of his mother Mary Brennan, Tubbercurry.
The Gaels bridged a 37-year gap by claiming the Senior Division 1 title in dramatic fashion over St Mary's. The Gaels had led throughout the game but a strong second half from St Mary's brought the game to extra time. The Gaels needed a last gasp free from David Quinn to take the game to penalties and it was Daniel Lyons who was the hero on the night with three penalty saves to give the Gaels the title. Well done to team and management on this important senior title after so many years.
History will be made at the weekend when we field a team in both the Intermediate and Senior Championships. First up is the Senior team who take on Coolera/Strandhill on Saturday at 7.00PM in Markievicz Park while the Intermediate team take on Easkey in Scarden at 2.00PM on Sunday. The Senior ladies also commence their Championship campaign when they take on CT Gaels in the Junior Championship at home on Sunday at 10.30AM.

The club were greatly saddened to hear of the sad passing of Kevin Coleman after an illness bravely borne. Kevin played underage football with the Gaels and won an U18 B Championship in 2010 with father Peter part of the management team. We would like to express our sympathy with his wife Megan, parents, Peter and Margaret, brothers Niall and Ciaran and the wider Coleman and Merrick family, relatives and friends on their sad loss.

It was a good weekend for the senior men's teams with two away wins. The Division 1 team defeated St Marys, 0-12 to 0-10 while the Div 3 team had a 2-12 to 1-6 win over Eastern Harps.
All three teams are in action next weekend with the Div 1 team taking on Calry/St Josephs on Friday at 7.45PM, the Div 4 team take on Geevagh away on Saturday at 7PM while the Div 3 team take on Cloonacool on Sunday at home at 4.00PM.

They won two of their three group games beating St Marys, Carrick on Shannon and Carnacon before losing to Tuam/Cortoon which saw them reach the semi-final where they defeated Glencar/Maonorhamilton. They were up against Tuam/Cortoon again in the final and despite a great performance, the girls lost on a scoreline of 3-3 to 1-4. Congratulations to Sligo GAA PRO and Club Member, Padraig McKeon who won the GAA Writers, PRO of the year award last weekend. It is a well-deserved honour for Padraig who continues to raise the bar for this position not only at county level but also at club level.
Well done to Sligo on a important win in London and also Sligo LGFA who recorded their first win over Longford.
It was a great weekend for Summerhill College who have made the Hogan Cup final for the first time since 1985 - congratulations to all involved and best of luck in the final. Hard luck to St Attractas on a heart-breaking loss to penalties.

We held the 2022 awards last Saturday with medals presented for the U16 Girls B Championship, U15 Boys C Championship, U14 Girls Shield and U13 Boys A Shield winning teams. The Girls player of the year awards went to Keeva Clancy U10, Casey McLoughlin, U11, Grace Mullen U12, Penny Barlow U14, Leanne Galvin U16 and Sorcha Mullaney U18. The boys winners were Sean McMorrow, U11, Eli Cassidy U13, Miceal Garry U14, Cruz Lyons U15 and Ciaran Kenny U17. The overall player of the year went to Leanne Galvin.
