It was with sadness that we learned last week of the passing of Club Patron, Greta Quinn in her 98th year. Greta had a long association with the club since its foundation in 1972 along with her late husband Dominic who was one of the founding members and Joint-Treasurer on the first committee. Greta was for many years a critical member of the backroom team looking after the various team kits and always had them in pristine condition for match day, a tradition that her family continue to this day. Greta and Dominic have left a significant legacy with their sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren heavily involved in the club at all levels, executive, administration, coaching and playing. We will always remember the part that Greta played in our club's development and she typified all that was best in the GAA carrying out her role in a quiet unassuming way without looking for reward or recognition. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Quinn family and extended family who have given, and continue to give so much to Shamrock Gaels. There was a minutes silence observed at all the Gaels games at the weekend in her memory. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

The U21 team advanced to the semi-final of the B Championship with a last gasp win over Curry in an exciting game played in Curry on Sunday. Curry raced into a five point lead but the Gaels kept in touch and pulled the deficit back to the minimum at the break. In the second half both teams struggled to assert themselves, however Curry looked to be coming out on top when they were one point up going into injury time. The Gaels, however finished in style when a great turnover from Daire Kearns set up Seamus Hailstones who’s decisive run split the Curry defence and he laid off to Shane Deignan who was clinical in dispatching the ball to the net to put the Gaels into a two point lead. There was still time for Darragh Hailstones to get the insurance point from a free to give the Gaels a 1-13 to 0-13 win. They now take on Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the semi-final away next Saturday at 3.00PM. The team was: Daniel Lyons, Evan Lyons, Ben Tuohy, Daniel Murphy, Alan Kelly, Karl McKenna (0-2), Andrew Flynn, Michael Kilkenny (0-1), Enda O’Connell, Daire Kearns (0-1), Darragh Hailstones (0-5), Luke Flynn, Shane Deignan (1-4), Cian McDermott, Mark Kearns.
