The Club wish to take this opportunity to wish all of our Players, Members and Supporters a Happy New Year.
The Senior Team are back training next Saturday at 10:00a.m. in Coola. Manager, Paul O'Grady will be joined by backroom staff of Dessie Leonard, Mick Candon and Fergal White - we wish them well for the year ahead.
The Bord Na nÓg AGM will take place next Sunday 12th January at 5:00p.m. in the Clubhouse - we would encourage parents who wish to help out in running underage football to attend.
The Senior AGM takes place on Saturday January 25th.
Congrats and best of luck to Senior player and Coaching Officer Mark Tuohy who married Michele Gallagher in the final match of the year on New Years Eve!

The Bord Na Nog AGM took place last weekend and Noel Benson has been elected Chairman for the coming year with Michelle McMorrow as secretary and Enda O'Connell as Treasurer. The managers for all youth teams will be confirmed at the first meeting on Friday 7th February at 8.30PM. Anyone who is interested in getting involved in a team should contact Michelle McMorrow on 087 6157455.
Registration for underage players takes place on Saturday 8th Feb 2-4PM with registration at €30 per person and €70 for a family of 3 or more.

The Club's AGM takes place this Saturday 25th at 5.30PM in the Clubhouse. We would encourage all members, players, parents and supporters to come along to the meeting as we set out the Agenda for 2014.
There was no winner of the lotto this week - numbers drawn were 18, 20, 21 and 25. The Jackpot now stands at €3,900 with the next draw in Sean Macs on Saturday 1st Feb.

The Gaels U14 team will participate in the National Feile Competition this year and in order to commence preparations for this important trip, there will be a meeting of Parents of U14 players in the Clubhouse this Friday at 8.00PM.
It was all change at the AGM this weekend with Lauri Quinn appointed Chariman, Chris O'Neill appointed Secretary and Enda O'Connell joining Mary Quinn as joint treasurer. Long serving member and former Chairman Seamus Cawley was appointed a Patron of the Club while Vivion Boyd was appointed Vice Chariman. There were many tributes paid to the outgoing Executives - Vincent Henry who stepped down after 6 years as Chairman, Andy Kearns who stepped down after 10 years as Secretary and Eugene Carroll who stepped down as Joint- treasurer - all will continue to be involved on the Committee.
The Club is participating in the GAA National Draw and tickets are available from any Committee member at €10. There are fantastic prizes available including a trip to Australia - all proceeds going to the Club.
The Lotto draw takes place next Saturday in Sean Macs with the jackpot at €3,900.

There will be a Bord Na Nog meeting this Thursday 6th at 9.00PM in the Clubhouse while there will be a full Club meeting this Friday 7th at 9PM - all committee members are asked to attend.
The registration for underage football takes place this Saturday 9th Feb between 2PM and 4PM in the Clubhouse - all new members welcome. Registration for the year is €30 per child up to a maximum of €70 per family.
Bord Na Nog will hold a Cake Sale after Riverstown Mass on Saturday 15th.
Well done to the U8 and U10's who played at half time in the Sligo game last Sunday.

At the recent AGM - Seamus Flynn, Seamus Cawley and Gary McDermott were appointed Patrons of the Club - full list of officers will be available shortly on the website.
Bord Na nÓg are holding a cake sale this Saturday evening 15th after Mass in Riverstown Hall at 8.30PM -please support - registration will also be available for underage players for 2014.
The Lotto draw takes place this Friday night 14th in McTiernans Gleann with the jackpot at €4,000.
The underage awards take place in Riverstown Hall on Saturday 8th March.

The numbers drawn in the lotto were 3, 9, 11 and 14 - there was no jackpot winner while there was 4 match three winners - David Quinn (2), Sean McMorrow and Trish Noonan while the house draw was won by John Joe McKeon. The next draw takes place in Flanagans, Sooey on Friday 1st March when the jackpot will be €4,100.

The 2013 underage awards will take place this Saturday 8th at 8.30PM sharp in Riverstown Hall - the Leo & Phil Kearns Player of the Year awards will be presented along with winners medals for the U12 Girls, U14 Girls, U12 Boys, U13 Feile Boys and U16 Boys.
Martin Nealon has been appointed Junior Manager for the year - we wish him well.
The Senior team are due to play Coolaney/Mullinabreena at home this Saturday at 4.30PM while the Junior team are due to play St Marys at home on Sunday at 12.00PM. The U16's are also due to play Owenmore Gaels at home next Sunday at 11.00AM. All games subject to pitches being playable.
The Club has been chosen to host the 'Gaelic 4 Girls' programme. This exciting new programme commences on 24th March in Riverstown Park for 8 weeks from 6.30-7.30 and is open to all girls aged 8-12 who are not registered with a Ladies football team. The aim is to introduce girls to gaelic in a fun environment with all participants getting a G4G t-shirt and certificate on completion. The cost is €8 - for information contact Michelle Mc Morrow on 087 6157455.

The 2013 Underage presentations took place last Saturday with five teams receiving winners medals - thanks to Sligo Captain, Adrian Marren who presented the medals. The winners of the players of the year were U10 - Johnny Kenny, Ana McCann, U12 - Leah Monaghan, Christain Monaghan, Shane McCann, U13 - Patrick Benson, U14 - Sheona Leyden, Ben Tuohy, U16 - Ciaran Kilfeather, Minor - Liam Tuohy. The Leo & Phil Kearns Cup for overall player of the year went to Patrick Benson. Thanks to the Kearns family for their continued sponsorship of the awards.
The U16 team got the year off to a great start with 3-15 to 2-14 win over Owenmore Gaels. The Gaels Senior team had mixed fortunes at the weekend in the Benson Cup - going down 1-15 to 1-13 to Coolaney/Mullinabreena on Saturday while beating Eastern Harps 3-11 to 3-8 on Sunday. They now take on Eastern Harps again at home next Saturday in the first round of the league at 2PM.
The Minor team got the league of to a great start with a hard earned 5-7 to 4-9 win over St Michaels. The team was Conor Heffernan, Ciaran Kilfeather, Aaron Kelly, Enda O'Connell, Paul Higgins, Conor Carroll, Caolan McCann, Daniel Willis (1-2), Caolan Morrisroe (0-2), Michael Kilkenny (1-2), Darragh Lyons, Mark Kearns (2-0), Darragh Hailstones (1-1). Subs: Daniel Murphy for C Carroll, Daire Kearns for C McCann, Paul Harrington for P Higgins, Marc Keegan for D Lyons, Cian McDermott for M Kearns.
The U16 team are away to St Marys next Sunday morning at 11AM.

The monthly meeting takes place next Friday evening 28th at 9.00PM.
There was no winner of last weeks lotto - numbers drawn were 3, 9, 24, 26. Match 3 winners were Margaret Coleman, Michael Hannon and Trevor & Mary c/o Mark Tuohy. The jackpot now stands at €4,300 - next draw is this Saturday 29th in McDermotts, Castlebaldwin.

The Junior team went down by five points in a high scoring game against Enniscrone last Sunday. They now take on St Marys at home next Sunday at 12.00PM in the Abbott Cup.

It was a good weekend for the club with all teams winning. The Senior team had a 1-16 to 0-10 win over Ballymote in the Benson Cup while the Junior team defeated St Marys 3-10 to 3-8 in the Abbott Cup.
The Minor team had a 5-17 to 1-5 win over Bunninadden in the league. The scorers were: Daniel Willis (1-1), Michael Kilkenny (3-7), Mark Kearns (0-4), Caolan Morrisroe (0-3), Darragh Lyons (0-2), Ciaran Kilfeather (1-0).
The U14 team get their campaign underway this Monday with a home game against St Maloise Gaels with the two teams out in Riverstown and Coola at 6.30PM.
The Club wish Coola PPS the best of luck in the Junior C Connacht Semi-Final this Wednesday in Tubbercurry at 2PM - there are a number of Gaels players on the panel - please come out and support if you can

The Saturday morning coaching sessions for U6, U8 and U10 Boys and Girls have started again at 11AM in Coola - all new members are welcome.
The annual Club 7K fun run takes place on Easter Monday 21st April - put the date in the diary.

The Juinor team made their exit from Abbott Cup losing out 2-19 to 0-9 to St Marys in a playoff. They take on St Marys again next Sunday in the first league game at 3PM.
The minor team take on St Pats in the league on Tuesday at 6.30PM.
The U16 team are at home to St Maloise Gaels this Friday at 6.30PM.

The U14 C Team lost 4-7 to 5-6 to St Maloise Gaels in the first league game. The Girls U16 team got their league campaign underway last Wednesday and despite leading for long periods they lost 4-5 to 6-4 to St Maloise Gaels. The team was Aoife Morrisroe, Sheona Leyden, Eilis O'Connor, Chloe Merrick (0-1), Chloe McTiernan, Ailish Benson, Rachel Boyd (0-1), Keeva McDermott, Makayla McLoughlin (1-2), Joanne Johnston, Roisin Kearns (3-0), Sarah Walsh, Mairead Tuohy (0-1). Subs: Lauren O'Sullivan, Aisling Merrick, Katy McCann, Sinead McGovern, Erin O'Sullivan - they play CT Gaels away this Wednesday.

Subs: Joe Henry for N Brennan, Shane Barry (0-1) for C Harte, David Quinn (0-1) for K Candon, Kevin Barry for D Davey, Declan Willis for M Tuohy. They are away to Castleconnor this Friday at 7.30PM.

The U12 girls lost 13-6 to Tourlestrane last Friday. The U16 girls take on St. Michaels at home in last game of league this Wednesday.
Well done to Rachel Boyd, Roisin Kearns and Aoife Morrisroe who have been playing with the county U14 team for last number of weeks - the campaign came to an end last weekend with defeat to Galway.

The Gaels get the 2014 Championship underway next Sunday when they take on Calry/St Josephs in Markievicz Park at 2PM - please come out and support.
The 2013 Player of the Year awards were presented last Friday - John Paul Henry won the Senior award and was presented with the Vincent Boyd memorial Cup by Vivion Boyd. The Junior award was won by Robbie Johnston and the Connolly Memorial Cup was presented by Anthony Connolly. The Ladies award was won by Aoife Brennan and the Davina Duncan Memorial Cup was presented by manager John Quinn. This year an U20 award was introduced in memory of Karl Galvin and the memorial cup was presented to Shane Barry by Thomas Galvin on behalf of the Galvin family. The U12 girls had a hard earned 2 point win over Owenmore Gaels last Friday. They now play Eastern Harps away next Friday at 7pm in the final league game where hopefully a win will see them contest a semi-final.
Both U14 girls teams are in action at home this Monday against Drumcliffe Rosses Point in Coola at 6.15 and 7pm. They then play at home next Tuesday against St Molaise Gaels in 15 a side and Ballisodare in 9 a side competition.
Preparation is well underway for the Feile on 27th/28th June. We are in a very fortunate position to be competing in both the boys and the girls competition as County winners. We are hosting Longford Slashers Girls team and Naomh Eanna boys team from Wexford. This will be a fantastic weekend for all in the club especially the boys and girls taking part. The U14 Girls 15 a side team had a 9-11 to 1-3 win over Drumcliffes/Rosses Point to book their place in the League semi-final which will be on Monday 23rd. The U14 Girls 9 a side team also defeated Drumcliff (0-10) to (0-4) and then went on to defeat Ballisodare in the semi-final on Thursday (1-12) to (1-2).
There will be a meeting next Sunday 22nd at 8PM in the clubhouse to finalise details for Feile – all parents are requested to attend. It is an important weekend as we host two clubs with a significant amount of logistics involved so we need everyone to pitch in to help over the two days.

The wait for Féile is finally over and both the Boys and Girls U14 teams get the action underway on Friday. The Boys go into the competition as Sligo Féile Champions and play Sean McCumhaills (Donegal) and Ballaghderreen (Mayo) on Friday evening in Ballintubber. They will then play our host club Naomh Eanna from Wexford on Saturday morning at 11AM. The Girls play Kilmore (Roscommon) and St Brigids (Roscommon) on Friday evening in Kiltoom. They will also play in Coola on Saturday morning against Longford Slashers. The best of luck to both teams and management and please come out and suport both teams in Coola on Saturday morning at 11AM – refreshments will be served!
The Carroll family came out on top in the Golf Classic – Eoin, Sean and Eugene won first prize sponsored by FBD Insurance. A full list of winners and sponsors are available on the website. The monthly Club meeting takes place this Friday at 9PM in the clubhouse while the Lotto draw takes place in Hartes on Saturday.
Pride of place this weekend goes to the Girls U14 Féile team who won the Division 3 Shield with a dramatic 2 point win over St Marys. The Girls had narrowly defeated Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the semi-final by one point after extra time. In a low scoring final the Gaels led for most of the game after a goal from Makayla McLoughlin - however the Gaels found themselves one point down with two minutes to go - but despite tired limbs, the Gaels dug deep and captain Rachel Boyd got a dramatic goal to win on a scoreline of 2-0 to 0-4 much to the delight of the large Gaels crowd. Well done to the panel and in particular Coaches Fiona Lyons and Aoife O'Connor assisted by Michelle McMorrow on this great achievement. It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of the ledgendary Frank White formerly of Castlebaldwin. Frank played for Knockalassa in the forties and in a distinguished career represented Sligo, Donegal, Connaught and Ulster along with Dungloe which was his home for many years. Frank was regarded as one of Sligo's greatest ever footballers and was inducted into the Shamrock Gaels Hall of Fame in 2012. The club wish to express sympathy with his family and relatives on their loss - Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam.

Hard luck to both Girls U14 teams who narrowly lost both the 'C' and the 'A' League Finals last Friday against Eoghan Rua. It was a great achievement to reach both finals with two different teams. Well done to the team and management of Fiona Lyons and Aoife O'Connor – we look forward to the Championship.
The U12 boys team had a good away win over Owenmore Gaels last Tuesday. Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half the Gaels fought hard to keep the scores level but in the second half they gave a great performance running out comfortable 0-23 to 0-7 winners. The U12 team overcame Curry in an exciting game in Coola last Tuesday. The Gaels were leading for most of the game and were in control but Curry put up an excellent challenge and took the lead going into the last few minutes. The Gaels, to their credit, upped their performance and scored four unanswered points to run out winners on a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-12. The Minor team remain undefeated in the B Championship with a 3-8 to 0-14 win over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point to top the group. The semi-finals take place on Thursday 11th.
The U14 team defeated Owenmore Gaels 6-4 to 2-4 in the ‘A’ Championship last week – they now take on St Maloise Gaels away on 12th.
The U12 team completed the year on Saturday playing in the A shield in Markievicz Park. They faced Coolera in the semi-final and raced into 0-6 to 0-2 lead in the first half. Playing into a stiff breeze in the second half they kept Coolera scoreless and ran out winners 0-7 to 0-2. They met Calry in the final and after a titanic battle they lost by two points. The game was in the balance right to the end with the scores level going into the last couple of minutes. Calry managed to tag on two points at the death to win the game. It has been a good year for the Junior team with a significant amount of players lining out at various stages – thanks to Manager Martin Nealon and Selector Liam Brennan for their work with the team this year.

Well done to the Intermediate Team and Management who defeated Bunninadden 0-12 to 0-11 in the Championship Semi-Final last Sunday. Thanks to all the supporters who came out in big numbers to support the team and it was great to see new faces at the game – we hope to see ye all back in two weeks as we take on Calry/St Josephs in our our first adult Championship final in 20 years. The U16 Girls team lost narrowly 6-8 to 6-7 in a thrilling final of the 11-a-side Championship last Sunday. The Gaels were one point up going into the last few minutes – however Geevagh fought back and scored a goal in the last minute to secure victory. It is 20 years since we last contested an Adult Championship final and we hope to get a great crowd out on Sunday to support the team and management. Hard luck to the Intermediate team who went down 4-9 to 0-6 to Calry/St Josephs in the Championship final last Sunday. The Gaels never recovered from two early goals and it was not to be our day. It was a great weekend for the Club with the Boys U14 and Girls U14 both winning their respective A Championships. The Boys were first up taking on Eastern Harps. The Gaels had a tough time in the first half playing against a strong breeze, however a Michael Barry goal just before half time gave them a lifeline. The Gaels burst out of the traps in the second half and 2 goals from Dylan Willis and one from Shane Deignan gave the Gaels a commanding lead mid-way through the half and eventually ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-9 to 1-12. The team was: Ultan McKenna, Adam King, Sean Carroll, Shane McCann, Evan Lyons, Patrick Benson, Bryan Johnston, Seamus Hailstones (0-1), James Carroll (0-1), Dylan Willis (2-2), Daniel Lyons (0-1), Dillon McDermott (0-4), Michael Barry (1-0), Shane Deignan (1-0), Brendan Hailstones. Well done to Alan Kelly who won a Minor Hurling Title last week with Naomh Eoin - Alan scored a goal in their win over Coolera/Strandhill.

The Club would like to welcome back Rev A B O'Shea - while we know he was working away in the background, it is great to see him back on the frontline again!
Now that the football has finished for the season, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped manage and train teams during the year - it is often a thankless job and we appreciate the time and effort put in as without coaches we would not be able to field teams.
There will be a Bord Ná Nóg meeting this Friday 7th at 8.30PM in the Clubhouse.
There will be a fundraising table quiz for Bord Ná Nóg on Saturday 15th November in McDermotts, Castlebaldwin at 9.00PM - teams of 4 for €40 - please support.

Congratulations to the four Gaels players, Paul Higgins, Frank Quinn, Ciaran O'Connor and David Quinn who have been selected on the Sligo Champion Club All Star Intermediate Team for 2014. The Awards Banquet takes place on Saturday 22nd November in the Radisson - tickets available through Lauri Quinn if you are interested in attending.
